71 GY3 Scamp

71 GY3 Scamp

Mar 21st 2020

Original 318 auto, GY3 Curious Yellow 71 Plymouth Scamp. White bucket interior, console, black vinyl top. This one had drums all the way around, a 904, and a 7 1/4" rear. Moving to a 5.7 hemi/545RFE w/ 8 3/4, AlterKtion and street lynx rear setup. This will be Dana's first car. She helped pick it out, and is doing a lot of the work. For the body, the Scamp is getting a new roof skin (OEM junkyard piece), and a pile of new parts including...

A padded replacement vinyl top was added to the car at some point which once cut up, it pulled a lot of moisture and ruined the roof.

Possibly flooded at some point. Frame rails both front and rear were full of mud.

Outer wheelhouse (770-1067-R) used as a patch.

Holes drilled to plug weld the 800-1370 down.

The trunk floor was placed in the car and primer was used to mark the rail locations.

Dana learning how to weld!

... and pointing to her favorite.

OEM roof clamped back down

545RFE's lack of fitment to the torsion bar xmember.

First cut at the floor

Crossmember out of the way to allow the trans to come up into place

Pass through tube welded into the frame connectors for the E brake cable

Brace in place to tie the crossmember sides back together

New fabricated crossmember/mount for the trans using a #2659 mount

Test fitting the original console

Shifter mount bracket lowered as much as possible

Shifter uses a 42" cable (#C95-042) and ends (#842 and #CW3) from chassisshop.com. The original 545RFE trans cable mount had to have it's hole size modified to work with the new cable. The shifter throw/detents line up with the detents for the trans.

A Jeep dipstick tube (53013685-AF) and dipstick (53013686-AD) were used. The tube was modified to closely follow the back of the head to clear the firewall.

Street lynx rear 4 link setup

Black bedliner on the bottom. Tinted bedliner in the trunk.

Steve Barger at Finish Line Collision Repair in Montrose, CO sprayed the GY3 for us.

New HEMI emblem in the same place as the original similarly sized Valiant emblem.

Freshened up A body 8 3/4 with new Yukon 21041 5x4.5" axles, green bearings, 489 case sure grip 3.23's, large UJ yoke, street lynx mounts and wilwood 12" disc setup.

Our donor "low mile": 5.7Hemi turned out to be a mess and required a full rebuild.

Need to shoot that lower radiator support still...

Awaiting the radio/heater bezels...
